Ningin is a media sponsor to this Saturday’s AM Classic event in NYC. It’s a musical showcase of some of the most talented Asian American artists. If you’re in NYC this weekend, be sure to drop by. Tickets are only $15 at the door and $10 online. So cheap! It’s worth the money especially considering there’s going to be 15 performers. For more details on the event click here.

I think it goes without say that there are definitely not enough Asian Americans in music. After listening to Andrew Choi, I found myself craving for more. So this week I’ve decided to share some of the artists that stood out to me most from the BIG list of performers that will be at the event. While I only list a few, there’s definitely more talent than I can share in one blog post.

Cythnia Lin – I’m Shy

She reminds me of an Asian Norah Jones with a Colby Caillat fashion sense. Her single “I’m Shy” has some interesting lyrics and a lot of girls I know can relate too. I’ve always loved the guitar so this was a fun listen after I out played Chris Cendana.

Heather Park – I Miss You

Not a big hip hop person in fact I rarely listen to hip hop now a days. This song on the other hand caught my attention because of the beat and Heather’s voice. She’s definitely talented and I’m surprised someone has signed her already. It does remind me of Samantha Jade – Step Up only more on the melodious side like some Lauren Hill song.

Kelly Tsai – Mao

She’s a spoken word artist (if you couldn’t tell) which got me excited because I don’t know very many Asian ones. Even thought the piece is serious she manages to make you laugh a few times. All in all, I would say she’s the female version of Beau Sia.

Magnetic North – Drift Away

One of my all time favorite music videos, and I’ve seen a lot of them. Not only is the video a completely tear jerker but the song is really good as well. It was one of my most played back when it first came out in 2006. It’s still a hit song and everyone I show it to loves it.

Misnomer(s) Live Show NYC

I use to play the violin so I learned to love the sound. When it’s mixed with hip hop however I love it even more. The modern beat with classical elements gives it such a fresh feeling that I think everyone can appreciate. So I was pleased to find Misnomer(s) mixing rap and the electric violin. Again, I’m not a big rap person but I found this to be worth listening to.

I wished I lived in NY now.

The Heather Park girl is good.

That’s so cheap for a performance.

I really like the last one with the two girls. I’m also a sucker for the violin. haha

Living the high life huh Lan? Sounds like it was a lot of fun, wish I was there :(

GLAM LAM! All righty then. If I were in NY, I bet I would have loved this event.

Hey, would you mind editing your piece to spell Jay Legaspi’s (Not Jay Legasi)name right?  Sorry but it was the first thing that popped up when I read your post. The show was great and thanks for being a part of it. smile

Actually they do it from West to East. It’s the Asian Hip Hop Summit and they do it in various towns from coast to coast.

Ohh! I was wondering why Asian Hip Hop summit sounded familiar. lol
