It makes me so sad to write this as it is the last day of the New York Anime Festival. It was my very first time at an anime convention and it was an overall great experience. I can’t wait to attend another.

Recapping on today, it was easier than the previous 2 days as it was more relaxed (thank God) which left a lot of room to socialize with fellow attendees. I met a lot of new people in addition to running into friends from the anime community. I want to give a shout out to “Saka”, our booth neighbor TM Revolution, John and Jayelle from Otakuden, Zlade from Anime Meetup, Ichi-P and old friends from Cosplay Day at Kinokuniya; it was great meeting you guys.

About the Cosplay Photoshoot Contest, we did take a ton of photos again which are all uploaded to the galleries. I want to thank all the participants; you guys are amazing and I wish you luck! Details of the contest voting and winner will be posted later. Also, I will be posting coverage later on about individual cosplayers.

So, I hope you guys enjoyed yourself as much as I did. Here’s some photos from Day 3:

Ohayo! New York Anime Festival is coming to an end as we start day 3, but let’s recap on day 2. Even before the doors were officially open, the Javits center was packed with cosplayers; it was pretty intense to see so many people there. As such, we were able to take way more photos for our Cosplay Photoshoot Contest. There were a lot of memorable cosplayers as everyone seems to bring their A-game. It’s amazing to think that some of these cosplays are put together by hand! We also met some of the artists and other exhibitionists. They were all really friendly and had some interesting merchandise. The day was a lot of fun but I’m going to let these pictures speak for themselves.

This is for all the boys out there. I am a big fan of the Square Enix game, The World Ends With You. While I was thinking of simple cosplay outfits that can be put together in no time, Sanae Hanekom or Mr. H was the first to come to mind. His look is not only simple but its bad ass. Not many cosplay as him unfortunately, but the one person that did pulled it off really well.

So here we go again! I would also recommend this to the ladies as girls are so cute when they cosplay as guys.

Anime has commonly featured their characters dancing which in return has had fans band together to learn and perform them in the streets. Not only are these dances cute and easy to learn, but they’ve become a popular trend; sort of like the moon walk. While Michael Jackson couldn’t save his life to be cute, other characters have beaten him to the punch.

There are lists beyond lists of popular dances in anime, but the most famous of them all are the Hare Hare Yukai and Lucky Star Cheer Dance. Both are common dances that have been done many times over by fans around the globe in addition to each other (Haruhi Suzumiya characters have done the Cheer Dance and vise versa). Although they aren’t America’s Best Dance Crew material, they’re definitely something of wonder.

Anime is definitely a catalyst for a lot of things from music to dance to fashion. With NYAF coming up, I’m decided that this and next round up will feature all anime music. There’s a lot out there and if it weren’t for these animes, some artists probably wouldn’t be as popular as they are.

I’ve chosen the list below after consulting a few friends on their favorite anime music. They’re very common and highly loved by a lot of people, including myself. It was really difficult just picking out 5 but I was able to narrow it down.

Also, I’m sorry to have missed last week’s. I’ve been so busy with NYAF! I will double the amount I do next week’s and the week after that. As always, enjoy!

This past Sunday August 17, 2008, the Kinokuniya Bookstore in New York City was holding a Cosplay Day in honor of the USA representatives for the 2008 World Cosplay Summit (the Olympics of cosplaying). Also, anyone who cosplayed received a discount on merchandise within the store. Sweet! It was honestly one of the most entertaining things I’ve done in awhile (other than AM Classic the previous day).

The event started at 10AM but I didn’t arrive till 3PM which was when the USA reps were giving their interview. Before I even walked in the store I was giggling like a little girl. I was really excited since this was my first cosplay/anime event that I’ve ever been to. The store is 3 stories and the event was held on the highest floor. It had the most amazing view of Bryant Park but that’s not important.
